Morgan, Russ, composer, director, ar­ranger, pianist, trombonist, recording artist, stage and screen performer; b. Scranton, Pa., April 29, 1904. ASCAP 1939. Of musical parentage. Educ.: Scranton pubhc schools. At fourteen left coal mines to become pianist in Scranton Theater. At eighteen to N.Y. becoming trombonist with popular orchestras; arranger for Sousa and Victor Herbert. Made European tour as trombonist, then became organizer, arranger and leader of Jean Goldkette Orch., Detroit. Band director of State and Capitol theaters; musical director radio and arranger for Detroit Symph. orch. Arranger for George White's Scandals, Cotton Club Revues, and Capitol Theater; recording company executive. Organized own orchestra 1939, and became hotel, night club,
recording and radio attraction.
